Why cycle in Spain?

Every day you come across messages and beautiful photos on Instagram or Facebook of cycling enthusiasts who are training somewhere in Spain. But why do they enjoy cycling in Spain? And where do they mainly cycle in Spain?

The start of the 74th edition of La Vuelta de España!

In about two weeks on Saturday, August 24, the tour of Spain will start again. La Vuelta is one of the three largest and well-known heavy Tours that are held annually. The peloton starts in the Costa Blanca with a flat team time trial of 18 kilometers. Torrevieja in the south of the Costa Blanca has the honor to host this time trial on the opening day. After the success of the Jumbo-Visma team in the last edition of the Tour de France, all eyes will be on these professional cyclists. Unfortunately, part of this great team is missing due to serious injuries.

Stage 2 also goes through the Costa Blanca

Also in the second stage, which covers 193 kilometers in mainly hilly area, the riders will ride through the Costa Blanca. We have already reported that the Costa Blanca is a popular cycling area. With the great climate and the many days with sun and little to no rain, it offers many opportunities for a good cycling holiday all year round. Both beginners and real training enthusiasts can handle this well. Almost all roads are of an exceptionally good quality. Whether it is about descending, climbing or flat parts.

Other cycling areas

This region has not yet been discovered by all cycling enthusiasts. Many of them still go to Mallorca for a cycling holiday. Another group focuses mainly on the south of Spain and drives regularly in Andalusia. Wherever you decide to go, everyone in Spain has one advantage. The cardrivers are so used to cyclists that they go well around the athletes. Perhaps this is also due to the high fine that they receive if they do not.

Then why choose a cycling holiday on the Costa Blanca?

  • Reliable cycling weather
  • Well maintained and affordable quality bikes for rent
  • Roads are not that busy and offer sufficient variety of flat and mountainous and are in good condition
  • Many activities for possible traveling family and friends available
  • Alicante airport is easily accessible from large parts of Europe and the flights are not expensive
  • The region around Benidorm has a very diverse and affordable range of holiday homes, apartments and hotels that have various bicycle facilities

For many professional teams the Costa Blanca is a regular part of their preparation for the season. So why not for you?
