Beautiful sights to visit with the roadbike on the Costa Blanca
Cycling and relaxing together
A frequently heard statement from cyclists who rent a racing bike is that they do not just want to cycle all day, but also want to have a goal to drive to. And although we have beautiful routes, there is also a group that not only plunges on a heavy ascent, but also wants to add some fun, good food and other elements to their cycling holiday. For them and possibly also accompanying friends and family members we put a number of interesting locations here in the area, which we think is fun to visit.
Guadalest
When you have just arrived in the Costa Blanca and you have to acclimatise a little bit, Guadalest is an ideal location to start the first cycling day. It is a beautiful village with an unbelievably beautiful view of the surroundings. At the top you will find (the ruins of) the castle of Guadalest (El Castell de Guadalest), where you will be granted a nice glimpse into the life of the past of this unique place. From the viewpoint next to the castle you have a beautiful view over the mountains, the reservoir and the village itself.
Penyal d’Ifac
Anyone cycling along the Costa Blanca coast and passes Calpe has a good view at this gigantic cape. Penyal d’Ifac (Peñón de Ifach) towers far above the Mediterranean Sea with a height of more than three hundred meters. Those who prefer not only cycling, but also a brisk walk, can indulge in the walk of more than an hour upwards. The ecological conditions on the rock are different from the rest of the Costa Blanca.
Altea
Of all the towns along the coast, Altea is certainly one of the most beautiful and diverse. Especially the old town with the beautiful Virgin del Consuelo church and the square in front of the church (with beautiful views over the city) are worth a visit. If you plant this town at the end of a beautiful cycle route, a stop for a delicious lunch in one of the more authentic little restaurants that can be found there, is more than worth it. The lovers of art and crafts can also indulge in the white houses where a large number of art galleries can be found.
Flea market of Jalón (Xaló)
Within the Costa Blanca you can choose from a large number of markets to visit. Most of these local markets have an offer that unfortunately is not very distinctive from the rest. The typical Spanish clothes, the cheap sunglasses and the bags that look a lot like certain expensive brands … you can see them everywhere. The flea market held every Saturday in the village of Jalón is a relief. Antiques, trinkets and art form the main part of the offer. Those who are more interested in tasting a good wine can go to the opposite wine cooperative. Via a beautiful route along the coast that goes from Calpe to Moraira, you leave more inland via Benissa and finally end in Jalón.
Fiestas de Moros y Cristianos
Although most cyclists certainly do not want to do anything other than cycling, it is still fun and special to attend the Feast of the Moors and Christians. Virtually every village and city on the Costa Blanca celebrates the festivities. This authentic Spanish feast is accompanied by beautiful parades, lots of fireworks and a big party with delicious food where the paella and wine are not lacking. The most grand and famous Moros y Cristianos festival can be found in Alcoy (Alcoi).
