The round of Spain –> The Vuelta

Although the Vuelta, has very different routes, the area in and around the Costa Blanca is particularly popular with the riders. A few years ago the peloton starts in Benidorm and then almost immediately goes to the Col de Rates, a climb of the 2nd category. The riders know this slope from their winter training courses, many teams stay in this region. The total climb counts 13 kilometers, with the first 6 kilometers being the steepest with an average increase of 6%.

Route of the stage

After the descent it goes via Orba towards the Alto de Ebo. This climb of 2nd category with a length of 8 kilometers has an average gradient of 5.6% with a maximum of 8.5%. A short descent brings the riders to the foot of the Alto de Tollos. A climb of the 2nd category with a maximum slope of 14%, this is the steepest climb of the day.

The famous Port of Tudons

Via Alcoi and Benilloba the riders arrive at the climb to Puerto de Tudons. The Tudons is of the 2nd category and with a length of 7.3 kilometers the climb is good for a maximum of 7.5%. To end in style, the Puerto de Tudons is on the menu again, only then driven from the other side. The riders drive across military terrain to the top of the Alto de Aitana. The climb is 21.2 kilometers in total. The average gradient is 5.9% and the summit is at 1,545 meters. That is good enough for the HC classification.
