Winter sports or cycling in the Spanish mountains?

Making choices

February is a period for many people from the North of Europe to go out for a while. A short holiday, where both a winter sport and a sunny holiday are often booked. For the avid cycling enthusiast, a sunny holiday in February is of course a dream come true. For the real ski fanatic, winter sports is the ultimate way to refuel. In the Spanish mountains, both the winter sports and the cycling enthusiast can go well. It´s all about making choices.

Ski resorts in Spain

Although I must honestly say that I have little experience with winter sports, I can sincerely tell you that the Sierra Nevada is great! Last year I also went on a winter sports holiday for the first time. And since we live on the Costa Blanca in Spain, the area of the Sierra Nevada is easily accessible to us. For winter sports enthusiasts from Northern Europe it is a good option to fly to Malaga or Seville and from there travel to the destination with a rental car.

The Sierra Nevada has about 106 kilometers of piste and is located about 30 kilometers outside the beautiful city of Granada. With an average snow height of 2 meters and various pistes, the area is suitable for the ultimate beginner (like me) and for the very advanced skier. With a height of between 2.100 and 3.000 meters, it is a fairly snow-secure area.

There are some very nice ski areas in the Pyrenees. Especially the areas around the villages Baqueira, Beret, Bonaigua and Formigal are popular. With over 150 kilometers of piste and a very large number of red and black runs, it is a wonderful destination for experienced skiers. Although it snows often with a height between 1.500 and 2.510 meters, it can also be around 18 degrees in the middle of the winter season.

Although we prefer you to come to Spain for cycling, this looks great!

Sun in Spain

I’ve written it before in a blog a few months ago. As a result of the Microclimate here on the Costa Blanca, we enjoy at least 300 days of sunshine a year! That is why this region with its beautiful high mountains such as the Aitana, the Coll de Rates and the Port de Tudons is a good location for a sunny holiday. And that is exactly what the real cycling enthusiast is looking for. A possibility to train at almost every moment of the year. Especially if that training can also be combined with dry, sunny weather and challenging mountains.

Winter sports or cycling?

Whatever choice you make, the most important thing is that you choose for a bit of relaxation. Whether that is obtained on the skis in the mountains or on the road bike, that does not matter. A good holiday gives energy for the period afterwards! Also excited to come cycling in the spring in our beautiful surroundings? Book your racing bike here now!
